As I walked across the fields with blue skies and a rising sun I had this tightening across my chest. Nothing untoward but instead the biggest fear of all, what living in 2021 actually means to me right now.
The continual discussion around implementing compulsory mask wearing and in some countries heavy fines if this is not done – what happened to democracy?
The climate emergency and lack of positive action that will bring about real change – all around us the greed drives the decisions.
The continual political ping pong and media dissection about spending, not spending, rising taxes and how to pay for the wish-list – the fighting is unnerving when you want to believe our best interests are at the heart of politics but you realise they’re not and never were.
I would like to see a big drive to get people to own their health, respect their communities and focus on what well-being means. We need to respect and keep our towns and streets clean by reducing litter and educate everyone about how they can all proactively help the environment but importantly big industries need to lead by example.
We must not use the NHS for a sore throat, headache or stubbed toe. It is a vital resource that requires respect, better management and improved working conditions.
We all need to work, everyone needs to be able to contribute towards society. Work isn’t just about money it’s about belonging, stimulus and feeling part of the bigger society. It is much better for our health to feel valued.
AND why do women still feel the heavy prejudice and fear when they want to walk across the park at night to go to a fitness class or meet a friend for a drink?
Why are big corporations allowed to pollute the world, our waterways and destroy vegetation?
How can negotiations and cover ups allow money to rule the well-being of communities?
Why do we treat the third world with such distain and expect them to live in poverty driven by working for advanced economies on meagre salaries in poor working conditions for companies that pollute the very land the local workers are expected to use to produce their homegrown food sources?
Oh and incidentally caffeine loaded energy drinks are REALLY shit for your body, why do people consume them in vast quantities? Had to add that, as often on my walks through town I see people consuming these poisons and I wonder if they realise how utterly rubbish they are for their well-being. Actually, how are these products allowed to be sold on the supermarket shelves, and in a lot of cases sold to young adults, and teenagers.
What a completely FUCKED UP world we live in.
